compiled by Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011 Robert Fulton

Heron at falls, by Patrick Tully
The heron is ideally placed, with the waterfall providing a beautiful backdrop. The heron provides an ideal focal point.

Beach with unusual sky, by Jeremy Rambles
The large boulder in the bottom left of this tranquil shot helps to balance the composition with the section of sky at the top right.

Horse in spotlight, by Bill Roy
An unusual picture taken after dark, this shot makes use of a light to pick out elements of the horse.

Fox with prey, by David Gibbon
Well done to the photographer for capturing a fleeting moment. A very good illustration of the circle of life in the countryside.

Lighthouse with wave, by Raymond Hutcheon
Nicely caught rough seas with the lighthouse in a strong position in the image. The timing is excellent, with the wave at its peak bursting on to the breakwater.

Horse team ploughing, by Jon Stroud
This is a well balanced composition, achieved by the positioning of the horses in relation to the farmer. It provides memories of a bygone era.

Stag bellowing, by Di Brimacombe
This image is another great example of capturing the moment. We get a feel for the surrounding environment without it being intrusive.

Curved beach, by John Myall
This shot has a lovely shape, with the beach curving round from the bottom right to the top left.

Woodpecker, by Keith Bannister
This beautiful image shows the detail of the bird’s plumage while the background is nicely defused.

Coastal scene with lighthouse, by Simon Auchterlonie
The rocks provide an interesting foreground, while the harbour wall guides your eye to the lighthouse.
