Hereford Cathedral

Hereford Cathedral is small, but full of historical interest. Originally Saxon, it was rebuilt by the Normans, suffered damage in the Civil War and was rebuilt again by the Victorians. Treasures include a medieval shrine to St Thomas Cantilupe and the Traherne windows by Thomas Denny. A new Ascension window and sculpture by John Maine RA, commemorating the Special Air Service Regiment, was unveiled this year. The library building houses the unique Mappa Mundi and Chained Library. Hereford’s Magna Carta of 1017 will be on show from 10 July, with a related programme of talks and events.
