What's coming up on this week's Countryfile – Sunday 24 May

Here's what's coming up on this week's Countryfile, Sunday 24 May at 7.30pm

Strangford Lough
As the tidal power generator in Northern Ireland’s Strangford Lough celebrates its first anniversary, Matt Baker and Julia Bradbury examine why the strong tidal currents there make it the perfect location for this tidal energy scheme. The generator now provides power for more than 1,000 homes, and although it was initially opposed by conservationists, a built-in sonar has helped to monitor the local seal population. This has enabled unprecedented levels of research on the local seals and porpoises as the effects of this renewable energy scheme on wildlife are monitored.
