View of the month

The epitome of a charming Cornish fishing village, Port Isaac has streets lined with whitewashed cottages, while small fishing  smacks still land their catches – particularly crabs and lobsters – in the tiny harbour. A thriving commercial North Cornwall port from the 14th century into the 19th century (the name is taken from the Cornish meaning ‘corn port’, though slate, wood and and limestone were all trafficked through here), it became dominated by fishing from 1850 onwards. Today it is a highly popular tourist destination with wonderful coastal walking.
