Dog lovers are in for a treat this spring, with the launch of a series of charity dog walks in the great British countryside.

The family-friendly days out are being held between March and June 2017 to raise funds to train hearing dogs.

More than 4,000 people and over 500 dogs of all shapes and sizes are expected to take part in the events, organised by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

There will be two different routes to choose from at each venue, many of which include National Trust properties.

There will be refreshments and entertainment on offer and walkers are also welcome to bring a picnic. Anyone who books will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury Forest Holidays getaway.

A spokesperson for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People said: “Hearing dogs transform their recipient’s lives by providing a special kind of independence, confidence and inclusion whether at home or out and about.

“Hearing dogs alert their owners to important sounds that hearing people often take for granted such as the doorbell, alarm clock and smoke alarm.

“Unlike a hearing ‘gadget’ a hearing dog also provides a warmth of companionship that can boost a recipient’s confidence enough to face the outside world and increase social and professional interaction thereby significantly improving health and wellbeing.”

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s Chief Executive Michele Jennings says: “The Charity is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and is very proud to have had such a positive impact on thousands of lives.

“But we couldn’t have achieved what we have without the help of our wonderful supporters taking part in events such as The Great British Dog Walk and the dedication of all our volunteers.

“Following the success of last year’s events, I hope the 2017 walks in our great British countryside get tails wagging and faces smiling all over the UK.”
