Hawkwood is set in a beautiful, sustainably run estate near Stroud in Gloucestershire. As a charity, Hawkwood has been offering courses for adults in arts, crafts, music, well-being and personal development for over 70 years. The beautiful, tranquil setting in a Grade II listed house on 42 acres is the perfect place for learning new skills in an unhurried way which uplifts the spirit. Experienced tutors guide participants in arts and crafts such as textiles, willow weaving, soap making, blacksmithing and painting. The house is often filled with music from artists residencies improvising and creating new work or from courses in guitar, singing and strings. Well-being is almost a given in this tranquil, creative setting, and some weekends in yoga, mindful movement or meditation take full advantage of the peaceful surroundings. Special events, festivals, talks, films and concerts are on offer, too. Landscape features include mature trees, a walled garden, spring, labyrinth, woodland sanctuary, outdoor classroom, ecological water treatment system and far-reaching views.
As well as practical aspects, Hawkwood actively encourages people to make a considered difference to today’s society and provides a venue for exciting and forward-thinking organisations to grow and develop through training, leadership and future thinking.
