Who is Mary Beard?

Mary Beard is an English classicist, author and TV presenter specialising in Ancient Rome. She taught at the University of Cambridge for over 40 years as a Professor of Classics, and is now a trustee of the British Museum. She has been awarded an OBE and a DBE.

Her books include Emperor of Rome, Women & Power: A Manifesto and SPQR. Her TV programmes include Inside Culture and Meet the Roman Emperor with Mary Beard.
