A signature fragrance can contain a multitude of notes and we may never think to research their origin: where are the ingredients from and what do they represent? Many familiar fragrance notes begin life in specific landscapes, shaped by climate, soil and centuries of cultivation.
Cremo's latest signature scent is Italian Bergamot, which brings bergamot, neroli and vetiver together in an uplifting, everyday profile. It's a combination of classic scents with global origins.

Italian Bergamot Eau de Toilette 100ml, £34.95 £27.96* with code: ItalianBergamot
1. Bergamot — Calabria’s citrus coast

Bergamot is grown almost exclusively along a short stretch of coastline in Calabria, southern Italy. Sheltered by mountains and moderated by sea air, the region produces prized citrus oil known for its combination of freshness with a hint of bitterness.
The oil itself is extracted from the fruit's peel and has been used for centuries in fragrances and as a flavouring. Most notably, it's the citrus tang you'll find in Earl Grey tea.
In Cremo's Italian Bergamot cologne, it brings a clean, uplifting quality without being overly cloying or sweet.
2. Neroli blossom — Mediterranean orange groves

Neroli is distilled from the delicate white flowers of bitter orange trees grown across Italy and North Africa. The blossoms are harvested each spring and must be distilled quickly to preserve their delicate scent.
The scent is floral and light, with a hint of green. Historically, it was associated with cleanliness and was once used to infuse gloves and linens with a more pleasant scent.
Neroli's subtle character brings balance to Cremo's Italian Bergamot cologne.
3. Vetiver — tropical grasslands

Vetiver is a tall grass native to India and parts of the Caribbean. Unlike many other plants used in fragrances, its scent stems from its extensive root system as opposed to its leaves or flowers.
These deep-reaching roots mean vetiver is often planted to prevent soil erosion or to stabilise land prone to flooding and landslips. Once the roots are distilled, they impart an earthy, woody aroma in Cremo's Italian Bergamot cologne that act as an anchor to lighter, more floral notes.
That's just a snapshot of three fragrance ingredients before they're mixed together and reach our shelves in fancy glass bottles.
If you're drawn to a traditional barbershop scent, Cremo's Italian Bergamot cologne brings bergamot, neroli and vetiver together in a light, everyday composition.
