The sidecar is a traditional cocktail that is thought to have originated around the time of the First World War. It’s usually made with triple sec (orange-flavoured liqueur), cognac and lemon juice that give it both warmth and sharpness with each sip – a perfect autumnal drink.

There are a few variations of the blackberry sidecar but this is my own and I love it.

Ingredients

  • 6-10 Blackberries
  • 30ml Blackberry-infused apple brandy
  • 15ml Cointreau
  • 1tsp Sugar syrup
  • 15ml Lemon juice, freshly squeezed

Method

  • Step 1

Muddle to gently crush the berries in the bottom of a shaker.

  • Step 2

Add ice, then the other ingredients.

  • Step 3

Shake until your hand is cold.

  • Step 4

Strain into a large cocktail glass and garnish with a thin slice of apple.
