The seemingly endless rainy weather we're experiencing this year isn't a one-off, but the Met Office estimates that wet winters are only going to get more frequent.
While cheap wellies might help you stay dry in the terrible weather for a short period, investing in a premium pair such as Le Chameau won't only keep your feet dry for years but also help save the planet in the process.
Why are winters getting wetter?

Northern Ireland has experienced the wettest January in 149 years, while southern England has recorded its wettest January since records began in 1836. While it's true that if you turn back the clock you'll find even wetter winters, the Met Office has confirmed that further global warming could increase their frequency.
What will future winters look like?
According to the Met Office, the UK experiences around a week every year where rainfall is above 80mm, making it a 'heavy rainfall event'. However, if global temperatures continue rising and exceed more than 2C this would increase to nine days.
As we move deeper into February and beyond, the Met Office says we're to see a "familiar cycle of low-pressure systems" moving in from the west, bringing more wind and rain.
Why buy handcrafted wellies?
Le Chameau makes the only handmade rubber boots on the market and sources only high quality materials.
While most boots are made from synthetic rubber that can crack after only a season or two, Le Chameau's 'Chamolux' rubber has a significantly higher tensile strength and tear resistance.
All of Le Chameau's boots come with a two-year warranty, which you can read more about here. To make them last longer, it's important you choose the boots best suited to your needs. Below, we break down all the bestsellers.
All-round options

The Vierzon features a waterproof adjustable calf, high grip soles and a breathable jersey lining. A great all-round option for country walks, farming and field sports.
The Chasseur is equally capable and easy to wear. You can choose from tailored fit leather or neoprene linings for extra warmth over the winter months.
Winter workhorses

The Vierzonord is built for comfort and features an adjustable gusset and neoprene lining. Great for cold weather and outdoor work.
The Country Cross has a wider, sporting calf for a more generous fit around the leg. As with all Le Chamoux boots featured here, it's 100% waterproof with a dual-density midsole that makes it versatile enough for all terrains.
Heritage classic

Saint Hubert boots feature a breathable leather lining and all-terrain sole for excellent waterproofing and stability. For outdoor pursuits, they're a stylish option that doesn't compromise on performance.
What size wellies should I choose?

Choosing the right wellington boot size isn't only important for comfort, but for longevity as well. They should feel secure but not tight enough to cause discomfort during extended wear. Remember to accommodate the usual socks or trousers you plan to wear with your boots, ideally allowing for a gap at the toe of a finger's width.
Le Chameau says its boots are made to be true-to-size, so in most cases your standard shoe size should fit well. However, it's worth noting that our reviewer found their pair ran slightly short.
Thankfully, you can exchange them for free so long as they are in resaleable condition.
