Design and Portability
Firstly, the Gerber Stakeout Spark multi-tool is a very attractive piece of kit. Designed for campers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, it’s surprisingly lightweight at only 210 grams, made from stainless steel, and has ten tools included in its compact design.
It folds down to a very compact shape, perfect for storing in your backpack or pocket, and has a handy carabiner clip for strapping on to the outside of your backpack for ease of access, which is my preferred method of carrying it.

Functionality and Tools Included
This compact and lightweight multitool has ten tools included, which I think really reflect its focus on campers and hikers.
It includes:
- Needle-nose and standard pliers for gripping and repairs,
- Wire cutter for cutting cords and small wires
- Tent stake puller for easy campsite breakdown
- Plain edge blade for cutting and food prep
- Ferro rod for fast fire-starting
- Saw with ferro rod striker for additional cutting power
- Awl for piercing and drilling holes
- Ruler for precise measurements
- Bottle opener for relaxing by the fire
- Carabiner clip and pocket clip for versatile carry options

Ease of Use and Performance
I have to admit that when I first started using the Gerber Stakeout Spark, I was a bit confused. The knife and saw both fold out and lock easily, but it took me a moment to realise there’s a small release mechanism you need to push to fold them back in, once you figure it out, it’s straightforward and satisfying to use.
It also took me a while to get the ferro rod out. I eventually had to grip it with a tea towel and give it a good pull. After a few uses it loosened up and became much easier to remove. The other slightly tricky part was figuring out how to actually strike it. The top of the non serrated edge is how you get a spark going, and once I got the angle right, it sparked reliably.
Despite a couple of these initial learning moments, I’ve come to really rely on this tool. Whether I’m pitching a tent, starting a fire in the rain, cooking, or opening a beer, the Stakeout Spark has proven to be lightweight, compact, and full of genuinely useful features.

Value for Money
At £62.99 for ten useful tools packed into a lightweight design, this is an affordable, reliable choice.
Sustainability
I couldn’t find a huge amount of information about sustainability, however, Gerber are committed to using plastic free packaging that can be recycled or composted, and all products come with a 25 year warranty, and the products are meant to last a lifetime.
Should You Buy It?
For people who want a reliable, practical multitool that won’t break the bank.
