Few things beat cooking on coals when you're camping – and I love the smell of charcoal on a calm evening outdoors. I got my Weber Go Anywhere Barbeque many years ago now, because I wanted something compact enough to throw in the boot of the car, but still solid enough to cook a proper meal and moonlight as a fantastic fire pit afterwards. After a few weekends away and some spur-of-the-moment beach BBQs, it quickly became one of my go-to bits of kit. It's not flashy or high-tech, but it just works, reliably, simply, and without fuss. Here's how it's held up over my many years of real-world use.
Design and Portability
At first glance, the Weber Go-Anywhere looks more like a tool box than a barbeque, with its black boxy design and lid handle, which I like.
The rectangular shape makes it super easy to pack into tight car boots or stack alongside other gear. It’s not ultra-lightweight (it weighs around 6kg), but the compact size and the clever folding legs that double as a lid lock mean it’s surprisingly easy to carry with one hand. Its design also makes it easy to store in your home too, as it can slot in just about anywhere.
The built-in handle is sturdy, and the whole unit feels solid—no flimsy parts rattling about. I’ve carried it from the car down woodland paths and even onto the beach without much effort. That said, it’s definitely better suited to car camping or campervan trips than hiking, unless you really like a challenge! I have strapped it to the back of a motorbike once on the way to Cornwall which was absolutely fine, however, this isn’t a piece of kit you can strap to a backpack or carry for long periods of time

Build Quality and Materials
I have been using my Weber Go-Anywhere barbeque for about 7 years now, and it still looks remarkably new. The porcelain-enamelled lid and base retain heat brilliantly, and I’ve even cooked breakfast on the still hot coals and logs in the morning after using it as a fire pit the night before.
The coating also prevents cracking, rusting (I’ve left it out in the rain many times), and peeling while handling high cooking temperatures. The adjustable dampers on the top and the lockable vents on the side mean you can control the temperature and reduce the heat quickly when you want to put it away.
After many years of use the plated steel grate has warped ever so slightly, but it hasn’t made any difference to the ease of use, and with a bit of effort after using, it’s easy to clean and will keep going, use after use.
Ease of Use
One of the biggest things I appreciate about the Go-Anywhere is how straightforward it is to use. Setup is super quick–unfold the legs, pop the lid off, load in the charcoal, and you’re basically ready to go. There are no fiddly parts or over-complicated features, which I find refreshing.
The only downside, and its nitpicking at best here, is there’s no inbuilt ash catcher. You’ll have to wait for the barbeque to cool down then tip the ash out.

Performance
For something so compact and at just over £100, the Weber Go–Anywhere barbeque really punches above its weight.
It heats up quickly and retains heat well, thanks to that solid enamelled steel body and snug-fitting lid. Once the coals are going, you’re cooking in no time–and it manages to stay hot enough for a good long session, feeding numerous people, without needing constant top-ups.
It also holds up very well as a firepit, compact but large enough to keep you seriously warm, and the high quality materials withstand very high temperatures well.
It’s also incredibly easy to clean!
Fuel Efficiency
One of the pleasant surprises with the Go-Anywhere has been how little charcoal it actually needs to get the job done. One easy light bag of charcoal is all you need to cook a feast as the bbq retains heat really well, I can get a solid 45 minutes of cooking from one bag.
Equally, once you’ve got three large logs on the go, you’ve got heat and fire for as long as you like.
Value For Money
At just £111.99, I really don’t think there’s a better portable barbeque out there. As I mentioned I’ve had mine for 7 years, and it shows no sign of giving up.
Sustainability
Sustainability might not be the first thing that comes to mind with a charcoal BBQ–but there are a few positives here. First off, the build quality means this isn’t a throwaway bit of kit. I’ve had mine for a while now, and it’s holding up so well that I fully expect it to last for years, and secondly the heat retention means you don’t need more than one bag of charcoal. That kind of longevity is already a big tick in terms of reducing waste.
Should You Buy It?
If you’re looking for an affordable, durable, portable barbeque that will do everything you need, then yes!
