I picked up the Buckbootz WALKERZGR Non-Safety Wellies because I wanted something practical for long days outdoors without the bulk of heavy-duty safety boots. From the first wear, they struck me as a straightforward, no-nonsense pair of wellington boots – light enough to move around in comfortably, but still built with the toughness I’d expect from Buckbootz.

Buckbootz was formed in 1997 out of Buckler Boots with the aim of redefining safety footwear, partnering with a Dutch company and expanding to Europe in 2007.

I was curious to see whether they could balance durability, comfort, and all-weather performance for everyday use in the fields and on wet ground.

Design and Style

When I first slipped on the Buckbootz WALKERZGR boots, I was immediately impressed by their thoughtful design. The 5mm neoprene upper combined with rubber provides a snug yet flexible fit, offering excellent ankle support without feeling restrictive. The K12 rubber outsole grips well on various surfaces, making these boots suitable for both muddy fields and urban environments.

What truly sets these boots apart is their reflective detailing, ensuring 360° visibility in low-light conditions – a feature I found particularly reassuring during early morning walks. The sloped collar design, complemented by pull-on levers and a heel kick-off spur, makes them incredibly easy to put on and take off.

Materials and Build Quality

When I first held the Buckbootz WALKERZGR boots, I could tell they were built to last. The 5mm neoprene upper combined with rubber provides a snug yet flexible fit, offering excellent ankle support without feeling restrictive. The K12 rubber outsole grips well on various surfaces, making these boots suitable for both muddy fields and urban environments.

The boots feature a sloped collar design with pull-on levers, eliminating collar roll-down and making them easy to put on and take off. The reflective detailing ensures 360° visibility, enhancing safety during low-light conditions.

Overall, the materials and build quality of these boots reflect Buckbootz's commitment to durability and comfort, making them a reliable choice for outdoor activities.

The heel kick off spurs are a nice touch however, these boots do require a break in period.

Comfort and Fit

These boots felt sturdy and supportive as soon as I put them on, however, within a short period of time I did feel blisters starting to form on my heels. These boots definitely take a bit of a break in period due to their stiffness and high quality materials, and after using them for walks roughly four or five times, they’re now really comfortable.

The 5mm neoprene lining provides a snug yet flexible fit, and good ankle support, despite initial rubbing, and the contoured collar design combined with pull-on levers and heel kick-off spurs ensures easy on and off.

The K12 rubber soles were extremely grippy on wet surfaces, making these boots a reliable choice for various terrains.

Overall, I like the design of these boots and the features are excellent, they just need a bit of a break in.

Waterproofing

I’ve been wearing the Buckbootz Walkerz wellington boots on everything from soggy park trails to muddy garden tasks, and I’ve been impressed by how well they keep my feet dry. The 5mm neoprene upper combined with rubber protection feels flexible yet sturdy, so my feet aren’t restricted even during long walks. The ‘bootie’ design with a breathable sealed inner membrane does a great job of keeping out water, while the K12 rubber outsole grips well on slippery or uneven surfaces. They’re comfortable enough to wear for hours without feeling heavy, and I love that they’re vegan-friendly too. Overall, they strike a perfect balance between waterproofing, flexibility, and all-day comfort, making them my go-to boots for wet or muddy conditions.

Value for money

For under £100.00 and with all the added features and clear durability these are a solid wellington boot choice.

Sustainability

These boots are made from rubber and neoprene so are vegan friendly, and while nothing is directly stated, Buckler Boots say it is “committed to reducing its environmental impact, prevent pollution and continually improve its Environmental performance.
