The next chapter in the Whoniverse is set to begin, as the official trailer for a new Doctor Who spinoff has been released.
The War Between the Land and the Sea is a limited five part series that's currently expected to be broadcast later this year on BBC One and Disney+.
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies is one of the spinoff's creators. The series follows the alien-busting organisation UNIT as they attempt to battle the ancient Sea Devils – and it's likely that the Doctor won't be there to save the day.
Who stars in The War Between the Land and the Sea?
Russell Tovey (known for Gavin & Stacey, Being Human and Years & Years) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle, Beauty and the Beast and Black Mirror) will lead the series – with Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave and Colin McFarlane reprising their roles from across the Whoniverse.

Where was The War Between the Land and the Sea filmed?
Similarly to Doctor Who, the spinoff was filmed in various locations across Cardiff and Bristol. Filming took place between August and December 2024.
Bristol
Filming took place at a house on Canynge Road, Clifton, where actor Jemma Redgrave was spotted on location. Scenes with UNIT soldiers were also filmed at Lloyds Amphitheatre at the harbourside, which can be briefly seen in the trailer.
Cardiff
Plenty of filming took place in Cardiff, with notable locations including: Cardiff City Hall; National Museum Cardiff; The City Arms pub; and the Welsh Government offices at Cathays Park.
Outside of the capital, scenes were shot across south Wales including: Porthcawl; Newport; Barry and Bridgend.
Mallorca
A distant island also appears in the trailer, with Russell Tovey's character Barclay and Colin McFarlane's Lieutenant General Austin Pierce marching with army soldiers. Scenes here were filmed on the Balearic island of Mallorca.
