Wallaby spotted running loose in Suffolk

There have been several sightings of the wallaby – police are urging anyone who sees the animal to get in touch.

A wallaby has been seen running loose in rural Suffolk, close to the Norfolk border.

According to BBC News, the first sighting came on Tuesday near the village of Ilketshall St Andrew, close to the market down of Bungay. A second followed on Wednesday afternoon, when the animal was seen on a road in the village of Wisset, just a few miles from the Norfolk border, before leaping into a field and vanishing.

It is unclear whether the animal is an escapee or part of a free-roaming population.

Suffolk police are encouraging anyone who spots the marsupial to get in touch.

Although native to Australia, wallabies can be found in several places around the UK. A large population lives on the Isle of Man and there are established colonies in Scotland, too.

A video of the wallaby can be seen on the BBC News website.
