When it comes to blending style, functionality, and performance in a travel mug, the Wacaco Octaroma Lungo in Carmine Red delivers in spades. This 300 ml (10 oz) insulated tumbler stands out with its sleek double-wall stainless steel design, vacuum insulation that preserves both heat and aroma, and a thoughtfully engineered lid that’s leak-proof yet comfortable to drink from. At a relatively lightweight 235 grams, it’s compact enough for urban commuting or outdoor adventures, while its thin-rimmed mouth ensures every sip feels refined. In this review, we’ll explore how well it really performs under real-world conditions – from heat retention to usability, build quality, and whether it’s worth the price.
Heat / Cold Retention
When it comes to heat retention, I've not tried a better insulated cup – it's almost too good. As well as simply using this mug day to day, I tested it by filling it with boiling water and screwing on the lid and leaving it, checking on it every 30 minutes throughout the day. After 6 hours, the water was still considerably warm thanks to the isothermal double-wall stainless steel construction with vacuum insulation and leakproof lid.
This has become my go-to mug for long walks, my walk to work, travelling and everything in between, however be warned, it's almost too good so beware if you leave your drink for an hour and come back to it it will still be scalding - don't burn yourself!
When it came to keeping things cold I tested in a similar way using cold water with ice. I found that the ice melted quicker than I would have expected however, it wasn't bad, and this is more of a hot beverage mug anyway.
Design and Portability
The Wacaco Octaroma fits really nicely in the hand, and the smooth hexagonal sides mean it's easy to grip. It's big enough to be able to hold a substantial amount of liquid, but small enough to fit into any backpack water pocket or even a raincoat pocket. The rubber base is also a nice touch, if like me, you tend to be on the clumsier side, and it feels like a high quality, stylish piece of design.

Leak Proofness
I’ve been using the Wacaco Octaroma Lungo Carmine Red on my daily commute, and I have to say, it’s impressively leak-proof. The lid seals tightly with its silicone gasket, so I can toss it in my bag or place it in my car cup holder without worrying about spills. I even gave it a few shakes just to test it, and not a drop escaped. That said, I’d still be cautious if I were to jam it into a packed backpack or knock it around roughly – the seal is sturdy, but like any mug with a silicone lid, it could wear over time. For everyday use though, it’s a worry-free companion that keeps my coffee contained and my bag safe.
Durability
I’ve put this Octaroma Lungo through its paces – taking it on commutes, slipping it in my bag, and occasionally knocking it around – and I’ve been really impressed by how solid it feels. The double-wall stainless steel (304 grade) construction gives it real toughness, and despite its lightweight 235 g profile, it doesn’t feel cheap or thin. The lid and silicone parts seem robust too – even after months of use, nothing’s cracked or warped. That said, if you drop it when it’s full and heavy, the outer layer can dent. But honestly, for daily use or travel, I feel very confident this mug will hold up well.
This mug is made from stainless steel 304, Tritan and silicone. Stainless steel 304 is an austenitic stainless steel which is made out of 18% chromium and 8% nickel - and is extremely resistant to corrosion and is really durable.
Tritan is a brand of BPA-free (harmful chemical bisphenol A), durable and clear copolyester plastic which is tough and impact resistant.
Value for Money
At £23.90 I think this mug is great value for money, especially as it comes with a 2 year warranty.
Sustainability
I haven't found any specific information about where Wacaco manufacture its products, however, stainless steel is durable and recyclable and the plastics used are BPA-free, and it feels like a long lasting durable product. That said, the silicone might degrade over time, and the plastic lid could crack if dropped.
Should You Buy It
This is a great insulated mug that performs really well, looks great, and is affordable - and would make a great addition to your travels or as a gift.
