Although commonly found in woodlands, foxes started to move into cities such as London and Bristol from the 1930s – and it’s now estimated that they’re present in 90 per cent of urban areas in England and Wales.
Foxes are crepuscular, meaning they are the most active at dusk and dawn, and they spend the daytime resting and sleeping. Across many cities, they come out to find food in the evening.
“Even though there are more wild foxes in London than almost any other big city, it’s still a huge thrill to see one suddenly emerging from the bushes,” explains Attenborough in the footage.
