Where is The Hardacres filmed? All you need to know about Channel 5's rags-to-riches drama set in Yorkshire

With season two of the smash-hit period drama confirmed, we take a closer look at the filming locations of The Hardacres

Set in 1890s industrial Yorkshire, Channel 5’s The Hardacres follows the story of the Hardcastle family as they rise from a grimy fish dock to a vast country manor house.

The drama captures the spirit of a county in transition, blending the grit of working life with the beauty of its sweeping countryside. But which real landscapes and historic towns bring this enthralling tale to life on screen?

Where is The Hardacres filmed?

Although The Hardacres is set in Yorkshire, the new series was primarily filmed in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland.

Actor Liam McMahon, reflecting on filming in Dublin for Radiotimes.com, noted that the themes of the series are universal, making the Irish locations an effective stand-in for 1890s Yorkshire.

Set designer Derek Wallace detailed the creation of the two distinct sets – the modest fishing docks and the grand manor house. He explained that Dublin’s Georgian and Victorian architecture, along with available period furniture, made the city a suitable stand-in for 19th-century Yorkshire. Buyers sourced nearly 90% of the required pieces locally, a practical solution given post-Brexit logistics.
