The popular BBC crime drama returns for a tenth series – we take a look at its spectacular scenery and filming locations


The trailer for the tenth series of crime drama Shetland has been released – and it looks like Calder and Tosh have a particularly grim case to solve.

The duo are drawn to the remote and isolated hamlet of Lunniswick to investigate the murder of an elderly woman. As they begin to unravel the secrets of this close-knit community, lies soon surface. And with a personal link to one of the team, things are going to get complicated.

What is Shetland about?

Based on Ann Cleeves' (who also wrote the Vera series) book series, Shetland revolves around the police team in the Shetland Isles as they uncover dark crimes in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Ashley Jenson stars as DI Ruth Calder and Alison O'Donnell stars as DI Alison 'Tosh' McIntosh.

Series ten of Shetland will start airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday 5 November at 9pm.

Where is Shetland filmed?

Series ten of Shetland was filmed in April 2025 across the Shetland Isles and mainland Scotland. Locations include:

Lerwick – as the main town and port on Shetland, Lerwick frequently appears on-screen in Shetland. In series ten, scenes were filmed at Lerwick's lifeboat pier.

Levenwick – the village of Levenwick, on Shetland's South Mainland, appears as the fictional hamlet Lunniswick in the tenth series. Speaking to Shetland News, producer Louise Say revealed that North Roe was actually their inspiration for the setting, but it was harder to film there because of logistics.
