A new set of Post and Go stamps, celebrating British river creatures, goes on sale today.
It features iconic species such as atlantic salmon, river lamprey, white-clawed crayfish, brown trout, blue-winged olive mayfly larva and minnow.
Rivers follows ponds and lakes as the third and final Post and Go set to be issued in 2013 – all on the subject of the UK’s freshwater life.
Royal Mail commissioned Kate Stephens to design the set, and and lino-cut artist Chris Wormell to illustrate it.
Philip Parker, Royal Mail stamps spokesperson, said: “The UK’s rivers are home to some of the most diverse and captivating British species, and yet our freshwater life is under threat. More than half of all UK freshwater and wetland species have declined, including the iconic Atlantic Salmon. By releasing this third and final set of Post & Go stamps, we hope to help raise awareness of these creatures.”
