OLPRO has been making a name for itself since it started in 2011 for creating outdoor equipment that combines quality and sustainability, and is one of only a handful of British camping manufacturers to become certified as a B Corporation. This is a certification by B Lab – a non-profit organisation focused on transforming the global economy for people, communities and the planet – signifying high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

I tested out OLPRO's Directors camping chair on various camping trips to see how it held up under test.

Design and Portability

The first thing that I noticed when I took the Director’s Chair out of the box is how stylish it looked. It’s not something that most people think about when looking for a camping chair but this one delivers in style.

It weighs 7.5kg so while not the lightest, it’s easy to carry short distances from the car park to the campsite, or down to the beach.

It’s got some handy features too, including a folding side table with a cup holder, and a zippy pocket on the other side for valuables.

On first use I found it a little tricky to put up and down due to the stiffness of the joints – so watch your fingers on the first couple of uses – but that just adds to its sturdy design and durability. OLPRO also advises on its website that “on first use these chairs may be stiff and require a strong push to open.” Equally, the table mechanism can take a few goes to figure out. Once down, you'll need to push the hinges quite hard against themselves to get the table back down, but this eases up after use.

Comfort and Support

While there’s no cushioning on this chair like other available models it is comfortable. The seat is a good size and you don’t feel cramped or restricted while sitting on it.

With a weight limit of 120kg this chair is built to last a long time, and the support is really reliable, and It’s got padding on the back which adds to the comfort.

While the chair isn't over cushioned, it is comfortable to sit on for prolonged periods of time.

Durability and Materials

I’ve been really impressed with the OLPRO Directors Chair in orange and black. The steel frame feels strong and stable, easily taking my weight without any wobble, and the heavy-duty padded polyester seat strikes a great balance between comfort and durability. I especially like the built-in side table with its cupholder and the handy storage pouch, which make it perfect for camping or relaxing in the garden.

The first time I unfolded it, the mechanism was a bit stiff, but after a couple of uses it loosened up nicely. Overall, it feels like a tough, well-designed chair that should last me for years.

The hand features such as the table, and the zippy pocket are nice touches.

Value for Money

At only £84.00 RRP this is a great chair for the price, comfortable and incredibly durable, you’ll have this for a long time.

Sustainability

While there is no mention of sustainable fabrics or processes in this specific model, OLPRO is one of only a handful of companies to be certified as a B Corporation – which is given to businesses that meet high standards of  verified social and environmental performance.

It also has OLTECH REPRO – tent canvas made from recycled plastic bottles and also donate canvas that can’t be used to a company called Retribe who re-make it into a range of products.

Should You Buy It?

Yes if you’re looking for a heavy duty, practical camping chair with great features that will last a long time.
