This new stainless steel, modular all-in-one pour over coffee kit already feels like a design classic. And it makes great coffee on the go!
After a night under canvas, nothing is going to be more welcome upon emerging from my tent than a cup of coffee, but while I’m a long way from a coffee geek, a mug of instant always feels just that bit disappointing.
That’s all very well if I’ve taken the car and have my camp kitchen setup, but when I need to travel light, I’ve yet to find a decent packable alternative – until now.

Like most of the best ideas, the VSSL Nest Pour Over Set all-in-one coffee maker and mug kit feels so obvious that I’m not sure why it’s taken this long.
Our review
Assembled, the four parts make for a rugged and rather attractive unit. It breaks down into stages that put me in mind of the Apollo rockets. The first stage is a chunky stainless steel mug. Next up is the nest dripper, which screws easily into the mug. Inside that is a trough to next your stainless removable filter.
At this point, you spoon coffee into the filter, and simply pour over hot water. We found that the first pour filtered through quite quickly, but it takes a while for the second or third pour to drip through. What this meant was that to get a good strong brew, we poured just a little at a time.
Once your coffee is ready, unscrew the nest dripper and, while you clean out the filter, screw in the final stage – a BPA-free drink-through plastic lid. And you’re done.
One addition we would love is if the lid could close up to make it more transportable, but that’s a small niggle. The blurb boasts that the mug section features “double-walled insulated stainless steel construction” but we’ve not been patient enough as yet to see how long it will stay hot for.
It’s a neat system, and we’ve even started using it at home for simplicity. There is a two-mug version available, but we found it was no bother to use the same filter and mug twice for space saving. For the seriously dedicated, they also produce a compatible grinder, allowing you to freshly grind your beans straight into the filter.
In terms of sustainability credentials, the stainless steel elements are 80% recycled, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. The build is so simple and solid, it’s hard to imagine how it would even need replacing.
