Teal walking sandals
BBC Countryfile Magazine / Fi Darby

UK retailers Mountain Warehouse have been providing affordable outdoor gear since 1997. Their Andros Women’s sandal has been designed for everyday warmer weather walking and is part of a limited range of sandals and flipflops.

First impressions

If you only have space for one pair of sandals in your packing, this might be it. With an attractive teal colourway and flexible sole and straps, they won’t take you on rugged trails, but should keep you comfortable on summer holiday streets and beaches.

Fit

The Velcro straps on the ankle and foot allow you to adjust the fit of this sandal to suit but the back strap isn’t adjustable. The footbed is generally well-sized with perhaps a touch too much narrowing towards the toes for wider feet.

Are they grippy?

For less sturdy and lower priced sandals these offer impressive grip. Their tread pattern has about 2mm depth.

How do they feel?

The flexible Phylon footbed is shaped to give some arch support and offers plenty of flexibility. The straps have a soft textile lining, which helps avoid rubbing. My only criticism would be the slight pinching I felt on the sole of my foot as the sandal flexed but I could happily wear this pair of sandals all day.

Durability?

For the price, these sandals appear to be well made. They almost certainly wouldn’t stand up to rough trail walking but should last well both in and out of the water.

Sustainability and ethics?

These sandals are made in China from manmade materials.

Good value?

Yes. If you don’t want to walk on rougher terrain or spend too much money.

Best used for:

From city walking and beach days, right through to evening relaxation.
