Our review: A budget-friendly, lightweight sleeping bag well-suited to long trips overseas

Yorkshire-based outdoor experts Snugpak started as a cottage industry in the 1970s and still make some of their products in their UK factory today. The Travelpak Traveller sleeping bag has been designed to take you on longer trips to warmer climates but would also function well in UK summer conditions. Its built-in mosquito net will protect you from Scottish midges as well as more exotic insects, but it is perhaps this bag’s versatility that will earn it a place in your rucksack.
First impressions
With its all-round zip and wide rectangle shape, this sleeping bag will open easily into a quilt but it also offers plenty of wriggle space when zipped. Its fabrics feel on the crackly synthetic side but when you’re travelling, robustness can be as important as comfort. The mosquito net looks effective and offers a level of overnight reassurance that might help you get the sleep you need.
How warm is the bag?
The warmth to pack size ratio of this synthetic sleeping bag is great for travelling but in the UK, it would only be suitable for warmer summer nights. The Travelsoft Polyester insulation is evenly distributed and the bag works as well in quilt mode as it does zipped up. Designed for warmer climes, this sleeping bag does not have a shoulder baffle but the hood is cinchable and there is a padded zip baffle.
How comfortable?
The Polyester fabric of this bag feels synthetic and slightly sticky against the skin in warmer weather, but the bag is of generous size. The mosquito net is surprisingly comfortable and will stow away in its own pocket, but the net's cheaper, sticky zip can make undoing it tricky. Although this sleeping bag will undo fully to make a flat quilt, the bag zip is not YKK standard and is fiddlier than some. The antibacterial fabrics should keep this sleeping bag fresher without washing on long warm trips.

Yes. You would struggle to find another sleeping bag with these useful features at this price.
