If you’re a fan of Bill Murray and golf, the perfect TV show is on its way to your TV screens. A Course Called Ireland sees Murray, family and celebrity friends make their way across a range of the best golf courses in Ireland.
The series is set to begin on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer from 23 October, before launching on BBC Two on Sunday 25 October at 9.30pm. The show is designed to show the amazing courses Ireland has to offer.
However, in true Bill Murray style, things don’t stay on course. During the six-part documentary, Murray and his good friend and author Tom Coyne, veer off course to meet the people who give the local regions their soul.
In each episode, Murray and friends travel across some of the island’s best fairways, with each episode exploring a different golf course with a different celebrity guest.
“A Course Called Ireland is a hilarious and unpredictable love letter to the game of golf. The series captures candid, unscripted moments woven with the wit, warmth, and wonder of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland,” says BBC Commissioning Editor Cal Turner.
“Audiences will get a unique insight into Bill Murray, his family, his friends and his love of the emerald isle.”
Across the different episodes, Murray will be joined by celebrity friends Chris O’Dowd, Joanne McNally, and Jason Kelce, along with different members of Murrary’s family.
"There was never much chance of a trip around Ireland with Bill Murray and his friends going entirely to plan — and that’s part of what made it so special,” says Kieran Doherty, CEO and Co-Founder of Stellify Media, who co-produced the show.
“It was a genuine privilege for Stellify to be along for the ride, and we’re enormously proud of the series we all made together.”
Bill Murray grew up in an Irish catholic family. His paternal grandfather was from County Cork, while his maternal ancestors were from County Galway. He said this show was an opportunity to explore the Irish heritage that he loves.
