It's time to say goodbye to Downton Abbey, as the latest film will likely be the final chapter of the much-loved period drama.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale will be in cinemas worldwide from 12 September 2025, and it looks as though we're preparing to say a final farewell to the characters that we've grown to love over the past 15 years.

While little is known about the plot, the film will follow the Crawley family and their staff as they navigate the changes of the 1930s.

Where is Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale filmed?

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale was filmed across Yorkshire, with cast and crew also returning to Highclere Castle. While it hasn't been confirmed, it looks as though we might be heading to London's West End too – with signs for historical theatre shows and red London buses appearing in the trailer.

Ripon Racecourse, North Yorkshire

The main cast and hundreds of extras were spotted filming scenes at Ripon Racecourse in July 2024, with a day at the races appearing in the trailer.

Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate

Plenty of Downton Abbey actors were seen filming at the showground in Harrogate in June 2024. While there haven't been any further plot details, their 1920s ensembles look decidedly less glamorous than the ones seen in the trailer.

Highclere Castle has famously been used as Downton Abbey throughout the TV series and films, and it seems that many scenes will be set in the house once again. However, with Robert Crawley (played by Hugh Bonneville) appearing to say goodbye to the house, will it finally be time to give up the estate?
