A young wildlife photographer was looking for the resident little owls in London’s Bushy Park when he was surprised to find a woodpecker nest.
“I heard a very loud and unfamiliar noise coming from around the corner,” says 15-year-old Jack Crockford.
“After finding the source of the sound, I saw this great spotted woodpecker chick peeking out of a small cavity in the tree, with another chick squeaking from further inside.”
He set up his tripod and filmed the little family, sharing his footage on Instagram. “I documented this woodpecker family for a few weeks, until they fledged into the wild,” says Crockford.
