Residents of Welsh village worried by rude name change

The winds of change are blowing through one small Welsh village near Abergavenny.

Community members living in the Welsh village of Varteg are kicking up a stink over plans to re-name it Y Farteg.

Welsh language campaigners protest that the name is incorrect in its current form and should be changed, in the interests of accuracy.

With there being no V letter in the native tongue it would mean a switch to the F, which produces the same sound, for the locals.

One nervous inhabitant, Sioned Jones, told Wales Online: “Just imagine how embarrassing it will be to have the word fart in your village’s name, never mind being followed by egg.”
