There are many travel mugs out there on the market, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if the BrüMate Era 30 oz Tumbler would live up to all the hype. I’ve tried plenty of “leakproof” and “long-lasting” tumblers before, only to have ice melt in a couple of hours or drinks spill in my bag. I approached this one with low expectations, half-expecting it to be another overpriced gimmick. But after using it for a few weeks, I was surprised at how well it actually performs.

Heat / Cold Retention

Honestly, the temperature control on this tumbler is really impressive. When I fill it with iced water or a cold drink (I usually do at least 50% ice), it stays ice-cold for more than 24 hours, just like BrüMate claims.

Even after hours of being out and about, the drink is still refreshingly cold. The insulation feels sturdy and reliable, so I don’t worry about my drink going lukewarm too quickly.

Design and Portability

Despite resisting this sort of water receptacle for years in favour of my beloved Nalgene bottle, I thought I'd give this style a go. I've always been a bit skeptical of these sorts of bottles because I prefer to fling them in my bag rather than carry them, which has led to soggy belongings on more than one occasion.

However, the leakproof lid is genuinely reliable - as long as I twist it into the locked position, I can toss it in my bag without worrying about spills. It keeps my water cold for hours, and the integrated stainless-steel straw is a world first, and feels clean and sturdy compared to plastic one. It’s a big tumbler, so it’s a little heavy when full, but the shape fits perfectly in cup holders and is easy to carry around. The only downside is that it’s not meant for hot drinks, but since I mainly use it for iced water and cold brew, it’s been perfect for me.

Leak Proofness

When it comes to leak-proofness, the BrüMate Era 30 oz tumbler is impressively secure. I’ve tested it with fizzy drinks, water, and even when it’s been knocked over in my bag - as long as the “Ü-Turn” lid is correctly twisted into its lock position, not a single drop has escaped. The mechanism gives a satisfying click, and I feel confident carrying it around without worrying about leaks. It’s way more trustworthy than other tumblers I’ve tried that relied on just a tight screw cap or flimsy sealing.

Durability

Honestly, I’m really impressed with how tough this tumbler is. The body feels solid - made from stainless steel, it’s resisted quite a few knocks and everyday wear without any serious dents (though there are a couple of very minor scuffs, which is totally fine for me). The lid mechanism still works smoothly after months of use, and the silicone seal hasn’t degraded. I did see a few reviews saying the straw connector can break if dropped, though - and I’ve handled it with a little more care because of that. Overall, for something I use daily, it feels built to last, and I trust it to survive my clumsy moments.

Value for Money

At £36.95 I think this is a stylish and reliable tumbler with good features, and would be a great gift for someone that likes this style of cup.

Sustainability

BrüMate claims its products are "made for tomorrow" and "care deeply" about sustainability and the environment. The metal straws are reusable and take away the need for a plastic or cardboard one, however it would appear that BrüMate have future plans to become more sustainable, and says that over the next year it will divert the equivalent of 15+ million plastic water bottles from landfills and oceans, by making all of our lids with TritanTM Renew - a highly durable plastic derived from 50% recycled materials.

BrüMate also reports on its site that it is now a member of The Conservation Alliance, and that its packaging will soon be made with eco-friendly materials.

Should You Buy It

This is a stylish mug that can keep fizzy drinks fizzy, but the sustainable angle is a bit dubious.
