A wildlife filmmaker spent two mornings filming Britain’s rarest breeding raptor: the Montagu’s harrier.
Not only was Nicholas Rodd able to spend time observing this rare bird as a cameraman for the RSPB, he saw a whole family.
“Watching two dedicated parents and four young birds already mastering the skies just a week after fledging was unforgettable,” Rodd says on Instagram.
The Montagu's harrier “is an extremely rare breeding bird in the UK, and its status is precarious,” says the RSPB on its website.
“Each pair needs special protection. Sadly, this attractive raptor is having a very hard time clinging on in modern Britain. Montagu’s harriers are today extremely rare nesters, mainly in southern and eastern England."
