Make the most of the weekend weather

The sun is out and, if the weather forecast is to be believed, it’ll stay here all weekend, so here are a few ideas for things to do in the countryside while the going is good.

Countryside walks

There are public footpaths leading all over the British countryside, so there’s no excuse not to get out for a leisurely stroll this weekend. However, it can get a bit tiresome walking the same old tracks near our homes, so why not look for some inspiration in our Great Days Out section of the magazine and website?

We’ve plenty of tried and tested routes from all corners of the countryside, for all kinds of walks from wildlife orientated trips, to rambles rich in heritage and history, from hillside climbs with the reward of a great view, to refreshing seaside strolls and peaceful woodland walks. So lace up those boots and let’s get outside!

Escape the hustle and bustle

If you’re craving more than just a walk, then make a dash for a peaceful campsite. We’ve got a few in our minds already. There’s also a lot going on in our National Parks this summer.

Urban greenery

If you’re unable to get out to the countryside, then don’t fear. There are plenty of great wild spaces in our urban areas to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Seaside serenity

Maybe you hear the soft sands of the British coast calling, or rather the children and grandchildren do. Aside from the usual sand castle building and paddling, why not go fossil hunting. Britain’s ancient coastline is packed with palaeontology. Find out where is best for these aspiring archaeologists to discover dinosaurs.

And remember to pick up the latest edition of Countryfile Magazine, this month filled with wonderful ways to enjoy the UK’s waterways.

Here are a few other places you might want to search for inspiration for wonderful weekend wanderings and rural rambles.
