Alexandra Klimas lives and works in the Netherlands. She paints oil portraits of farm animals, focusing predominantly on cows as her main subject matter.

Although farm animals have featured in artworks throughout history, it is the detail of Klimas' work – partly attributed to a lifelong fascination with cows, sheep and other livestock – that sets her apart from other artists.

Pastoral grazing is thought to be in decline throughout the Netherlands and much of Europe, with many animals, such as pigs, increasingly reared indoors. This change of state in farming is another inspiration for Klimas, whose paintings are delivered with astounding realism.
