Pros:

Water resistant, collapsible, portable, very bright and has a power bank

Cons:

It’s not very pretty. This isn’t a romantic lantern for twinkling festival effect, this is a practical light for hardy camping.

Our review: an excellent choice for those planning on wild camping or who need to camp relatively light – this sturdy, water-resistant lamp is pragmatically designed to pack down, shine bright and recharge your devices

First impressions

This isn’t the prettiest lamp in the world but it’s clever. The Nebo Galileo Air 1000 is collapsible, folding down for easy packing, and extends to a pyramid shape when in use. Its brightest setting is extremely bright at 1000 lumens. With a folding hook at the back, it can be suspended to act as a hanging light. The plastic casing makes it water resistant, and it also has a power bank, allowing you to charge your phone while camping. All in all, pretty nifty.

Brightness of light

The Nebo Galileo Air 1000 is VERY bright. This is useful if you have lost something or need to draw attention to yourself but, while testing this at night in my tent, I was conscious that the first glare when switching it on was too bright; I had to quickly click through the settings to get a softer option. It’s worth turning the lamp away from you while you switch it on, to spare your eyes the glare.

However, it’s also possible to turn it on straight to the red setting, which is designed for night vision, by pressing and holding the on switch.

Is it easy to use?

Yes, it is very easy to use, just press the big red button and on it goes, to blazing brilliance. If you want to lower the luminosity, continue clicking the button again to cycle through the settings. Alternatively, just press and hold the on button to go straight to red.

There are instructions on the lamp itself on how to operate the settings, so you don’t need to remember anything.

How is the battery life?

The lamp lasted an hour while both shining and charging my phone. On the lowest light setting, it can last for 10 hours.

Is the device rechargeable?

Yes, it comes with a USB-C to USB charging cable so can be recharged easily, just plug it in to a power outlet for two hours.

How portable is the camping light?

With a concertina-type design, the Nebo Galileo Air 1000 extends into a pyramid shape and can collapse down flat, which makes it more convenient for packing and travelling light.

It’s still not the smallest lamp out there but it is a great multipurpose option.

Best used for:

This is a good light for hiking as it’s water resistant, portable, robust, fairly light in weight, very bright with six light settings, and it also acts as a power bank. Plus, it’s made of plastic so is fairly robust – no shattering glass here.
